Kathy Lynn (Sistrunk) Matthews

Kathy Sistrunk Matthews, age 71, of Sanford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at UNC Medical Center, Chapel Hill, NC.

She was born in Lee County on July 29, 1954 to the late James Calvin Sistrunk and Peggy Alma Frye Sistrunk Glover.  In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her sisters, Terry Sistrunk Wicker and Kelly Glover Martin; brother, Michael Sistrunk; and niece Kelsey Kehagias.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Donald Matthews; sister Karen Kehagias; brother Phillip Saari; her nieces Allison Howard, Samantha Wojenski, Margaret Garwood, Kathryn Rode, Amy Cole, Shanell Lawson; nephews Alex Martin, Jay Fraley, Jared and Nick Kehagias.

Kathy was a loving Wife, Aunt, Sister, Niece, Bonus Mother, & Friend. She loved her friends and family fiercely. She loved to play cards with her friends, host cookouts for her family, crochet, make desserts, & shop till she dropped. She loved her puppy dog – Gracie.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 4th, 2025 at 11:00 am at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, with Reverend John Baker officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends following the Service in the Church Fellowship Hall.
