Karen Lisa (Gaines) Campbell

Karen Gaines Campbell, age 61, of Sanford, NC, departed this world Thursday, October 12, 2023, at her home with her family by her side, following a long illness.

She was born in Lee County, NC on March 29, 1962 to the late Henry David Gaines and Emogene Dixon Gaines. 

Karen’s life was enriched by her loving marriage to Harold Campbell and together they raised a wonderful son, Jared Campbell, born in 1991.  Her role as a wife and mother was at the heart of her life, and her family was her greatest source of joy.

In addition to her husband and son, Karen is survived by her sister Susan Gaines Craven of Virginia and 2 nephews, Matthew and Zach.

For many years, Karen called Sanford, NC her home.  It was here that she began working for the Lee County School System.  One of Karen’s great passions was literature, and she had a special affection for the books authored by Ed McBain.

As we say our farewells to Karen, we remember her as a devoted wife, loving mother, and a dedicated member of her community.  Her love for books and the characters she met within their pages enriched her life.  Karen’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.

May she rest in peace.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Antioch Baptist Church.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church, 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.
