Jones Richard Thomas, Sr.

Jones Richard Thomas, Sr., age 80, of Sanford, NC, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at his home.

He was born in Lee County, NC on March 28, 1940 to the late Roy Shepard Thomas and Elizabeth Wofford Thomas.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Sue Thomas; brother, Wallace Thomas and sister, Margie Ellis.  Richard worked as a supervisor at GKN for many years.  He proudly served his country in the US Navy.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Jackson Thomas; daughters, Sandra Hickman of Sanford and Judy Atkins and husband, Lloyd of Sanford; son, Jones Richard Thomas, Jr. and wife, Joyce of Southport; brother, Fred Thomas and wife, Christine of Sanford; sister, Ann Black and husband, Gale of Sanford; grandchildren, Kristen Lee, Joseph Atkins, Jesse Atkins, Joshua Oldham, Dalton Oldham, Jones Thomas, III and John Thomas and eight great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Sunday, October 4, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Lee Memory Gardens with Mr. James Holt, Miss Melinda Yule and Miss Waverley Pierson officiating.  Friends and family may pay their respect and view the body at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home on Saturday, October 3, 2020 from 12:00 PM until 4:00 PM.
