Johnny Marshall Stone, age 85, of the Deep River Community, passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at his home with his family by his side.
He was born in Lee County, NC on March 7, 1936 to the late Frank Stone and Alma Love Stone. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Edna Rae Stone Saunders and Kaye Stone Richter. Johnny served our country in the United States Army and worked many years for Cooke’s Poultry before starting his successful landscaping business, JMS Landscaping. He loved his job and took great pride in making sure everything was done correctly. He was a long-time member of Zion Christian Church. Johnny enjoyed the outdoors and riding horses. He was fiercely independent and loved his family more than anything.
He is survived by his wife, of 30 years, Dina Reyes Stone; son Rev. Rocky Stone and wife Celia of Farmville, NC; daughter Holly Stone Powell of Lake Waccamaw, NC; sister Lynda Matthews of Lemon Springs, NC; and grandchildren Benjamin Stone, Samuel Stone, Sonia Stone, Robert Powell and wife Brittney, Andrew Powell and Victoria Powell and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of Zion Christian Church, Sunday, November 14, 2021 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM with the funeral service following at 4:00 PM with Rev. Matt Austin and Rev. Steve Johnson officiating. A private burial will be held.
