Joel Ellis Yates was born on November 2, 1965, in Plant City, FL and passed away at home on Monday January 1, 2024. Joel was preceded in death by his mother Judy Faye Griffin (1948-1972) and his father Virgil Yates.
Joe or Joey as many of his family and friends called him was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved being outside in his garden, listening to music, drawing, arts and crafts as well as spending time with his beloved dogs Breezy and Ruby. And of course, spending time with his family.
Joel left behind of wife of 42 years Rhonda Sue Hughes Yates, a son Joseph Brian Hughes (ex-wife Sherissa Hughes) grandchildren Jayden Hughes, Isabella Hughes, Joclynn Hughes and Jaxson Hughes. His daughter Loni Faye Ginnetti (Michael Ginnetti) grandson Michael Ellis J Ginnetti all in NC.
His only sister in FL Melissa Griffin Roberts, nephews Reed Roberts of NJ(Rebecca) grandniece Reagan; and Seth Roberts of FL (Jillian). He is also survived by his other dad Don Griffin of FL (Kelly).
And nephews and nieces Joanna Hunt, Charlie Ball, Samantha Abell, Sherri Lynn Hughes, Billy Hughes, Melissa Hughes, John Hughes, Destiny Weezorak, Ashlyn Huhges, Chevie, Chance and Daisy Hughes.
He also leaves behind his huge extended family on his mother's side from the Tampa, FL area, to include all the Browder’s, the McIntosh’s, the Blair’s, the Brown’s, the Griffin’s of GA and many more loved ones from all over.
Joel was a very spiritual man who believed in life after death. We all believe he is reunited with his beautiful mother in heaven, and he always found the beauty in things in this world and in people.
He would often say, who’s to say what is right or wrong, you do your wisdom, I’ll do mine, in the end, we all end in the same way my friend.
He loved writing poems and would often write about his life and his loved ones.
This poem he wrote for his wife:
They say strength comes in numbers, truth is all you need, one true heart is all you need, for me, I found that in you.
We once was one, now we are two, I’ll give you all of me for half of you, forever together.
Through strength of two, true me for you, you for me, forever two hearts, forever free. I love you Rhonda.
This was Joel Ellis Yates heart, just a man filled with love and compassion for anyone who was lucky enough to know him.
