Joan (Lane) Hennings

Joan Lane Hennings, age 89, of Cameron, NC, passed away Thursday, December 4, 2025 at her home, with her family by her side.

She was born in Moore County on July 25, 1936 to the late Cecil Jennings Lane and Gertrude Medlin Lane.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband William “Bill” Odell Hennings; second husband Daniel Webb Peavey; son Billy Joe Hennings; sisters Darlene Tillman, Doris Badgett, Terry Brown and brothers Steven Lane and Jimmy Lane.

She is survived by her daughters Donna Kay Hennings, Sherry Hennings Harrison (Rick), Joy Lynn Hennings (Ken); bonus-children Shelia Athans, Margaret Bunnell Blue, Shelia Flynn Williams, Vickie Lane Watts; step-sons Wilton Peavy (Ann), Mark Peavy (Tina); grandchildren Amber Blue (Mike Reed), Lindsay Brianna Schiller (Andrew), Brielle Briggs Tulley (Thomas), Ramey Celeste Faircloth, Nathan Hennings, Adam Faircloth, Whitney Marion; great-grandchildren Haydyn Blue, Ivan Olgiati, Kate Doss, John Doss, Arius Tulley, Cambrie Tulley, Kannon Schiller, Amarion Faircloth, Arkyn Schiller; and sister Peggy Hawthorne.

Joan was fondly called “Mimi” by many people. She was a member at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church since she was 15 years old and was very active.  She served in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, children and youth activities.  Mimi was a talented seamstress and made beautiful dolls.  For several years, she substituted at Cameron School.  She was an avid UNC Tarheel and didn’t want to be interrupted during games.  Joan loved the snow, beach and more than anything she loved children.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, December 7, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church with Pastor Chandler Wilkes officiating.  The family will receive friends, in the church, from 1:00 PM to 1:50 PM, prior to the service.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
