Obituary

Jewel Mae Snyder Baker, age 90, passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at her home with her family by her side.

She was born in Pinnacle, NC on October 31, 1930 to the late Otto King Snyder and Bertha Mae Moser Snyder.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Neil Robert “Tom” Baker, Jr. and a grandson Brian Allen Baker who she had a deep love for.  She was also preceded in death by her brothers Grady Snyder and Coelle Snyder.  Mrs. Baker was a loving homemaker and had attended both Jonesboro Heights Baptist Church and Hunt Springs Baptist Church.  She was voted Most Dependable in her 1949 Class Superlative and enjoyed her Canasta Club with neighborhood ladies and Rook with family and friends.  She was known for her delicious turkey and dressing but thought nothing was better than fried chicken, peas and tomatoes.   Jewel loved gardening and she always caught the biggest fish when she went deep sea fishing at Ocean Isle Beach and various other areas.  When she was younger, her parents would invite friends and family to their packhouse (barn) for hours of fun and fellowship square dancing.  She was a very giving person and never had much, but always shared what she had.

She is survived by her sons Roger Neil Baker and wife Brenda of Cameron, Brian Keith Baker and wife Michelle of Sanford; daughters Wanda Baker Beal and husband Tommy of Broadway, Gloria Baker Bonner and husband John of Benson; brother Howard Franklin Snyder of Sanford; sisters Erline Snyder Kelly of Sanford, Melba Snyder Kelly and husband Jim of Sanford; grandchildren Beverly Beal Craig and husband Britton, Lori Beal Kearns and husband Josh and one step-granddaughter Casey Evans Oest and husband Chase; four great-grandchildren Madelyn Craig, Morgan Craig, Jacob Kearns and Savannah Kearns.  Jewel also loved her cat Ronnie and fed him too much too often.
