Jeffery " Jeff" Payne Obituary

Jeff Payne, 63, passed away on Thursday, May 14th. Born & raised in Sanford, he dedicated his life to others through giving, selflessness, and “walking the walk” of his Faith.

He led a life that was extraordinary in many ways. As a paramedic for over 20 years, coupled with his service as a critical care flight medic for UNC-Chapel Hill, he saved countless lives, yet never bragged about his accomplishments as a first responder. Out of all the jobs he held, he always said his favorite was with Daniel International Corporation at the Shearon Harris Nuclear Plant in the 1980’s because he worked alongside his dad and his brothers. Although he was great at many things, he excelled as a father, son, brother, friend, and follower of Christ. The love he poured out to others will be missed, and the care he provided to his parents in the twilight of their lives will never be forgotten.

He is survived by two sons; Scott (Ashley) of Holly Springs, and John Alan (Abby) of Sanford. He is also survived by two brothers, John of Sanford and Jerry (Judy) of Holland, Michigan, nephews Josh (Whitney), Jonathan, Jason, and Justin, aunts Opal Barton of Cameron, Bonnie Payne, and Savannah Payne of Mount Airy. Special family members Deana Nichols, Jacob O’Quinn, Debbie Udzielak, Cody, Olivia, and Leah Guerin, a granddaughter, Taytum O’Quinn, and numerous special cousins. The family would also like to extend a thank you to his nurses Kathy & Eryn, along with the staff of Home2Suites in Sanford for the love and outpouring of support they gave to Jeff he loved them all dearly. A “final honor” will be rendered at his funeral for his years of service to the State of North Carolina as a first responder and will be led by his best friend of over 40 years, Jonathan Kelly.

Jeff was preceded in death by his beloved parents- John & Irene Payne, grandparents Jim & Minnie Payne and Coy & Beulah Whitt, sister-in-law Terri Payne, and uncles Billy Whitt, Irby, Jesse, Tom, Buford, and James Payne. His funeral will be officiated by Rev. Greg Davenport and John Alan Payne at One Hope Assembly of God in Sanford on Sunday, May 24th at 3:00 p.m.
