Janet Lois Zurbach

Janet Lois Zurbach passed away surrounded by her family at Moses Cone Hospital on Friday, May 3, 2024 at the age of 72.

She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Eugene Joseph Zurbach and Lois Miriam Hammond Zurbach, who have preceded her in death. She worked as a Spanish teacher at Central Carolina Community College until her retirement in 2023. Janet was fluent in seven different languages. During her free time, she loved bird-watching and enjoyed traveling to the beach and the mountains. Janet had an appreciation for music encompassing everything from classical to The Beatles. She was also an active member of the YMCA and Red Hat Society. Although Janet found joy in many things, her greatest joy came from being a mother and grandmother to her beloved family, whom she loved and cared for deeply.

Janet was a unique individual known for her kindness and selfless generosity, which were equal to her exuberant, quirky, humor-filled personality. Her conversational flow was a delightful blend of her half-southern and half-Philadelphian roots. Her bright smile was a beacon of joy that could instantly illuminate any room she was in.

Janet is survived by her loving sons, Daniel Rogers of Erwin, Andrew Rogers (Nicole) of Durham and Jacob Rogers (Shira) of Pennsylvania; seven siblings, Mary, Patricia, Peter, Barbara, Nancy, James and Terry and two very special grandchildren, Sydney and Emory Rogers.

The family invites you to pay your respects on Friday, May 10, 2024 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.  The funeral service, a celebration of Janet's life, will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Stephen the First Martyr Catholic Church in Sanford, NC. Following the service, Janet will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.
