Janet Carter Obituary

Janet Johnson Carter, age 73, of Sanford, passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital. It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to this remarkable woman—our beloved mother and the best Mimi anyone could ever ask for.

She was born in Lee County to the late William Worth Johnson, Sr. and Lucy Matthews Johnson.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Charles “Charlie” Carter; brothers Eddie Darrell Johnson and William “Butch”  Johnson; a set of twin boys William Shane and Joseph Blane and her sons-in-law Stacey Neil Hall and Mickey Jay Bass

Janet lived her life with quiet strength, unwavering kindness, and a heart that always beat for others. She never hesitated to put the needs of those she loved ahead of her own, embodying selflessness and grace in every chapter of her life. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—cross stitching beautiful pieces that will forever hold her spirit, getting lost in the pages of a good book, watching her favorite show Reba, and spending time at the bowling alley with friends and family. But above all, her greatest joy came from her grandchildren. They were the light of her life, her pride and joy, and the true treasures of her heart. Her love was steady, her laughter was warm, and her presence made any place feel like home. We will miss her deeply, but we will carry her love forward—forever grateful for the time we had and the memories we’ll hold dear.

Janet is survived by daughters Shannon Hall and Lauren Bass (Mark), both of Sanford; step-daughter Teresa “Terri” Hayter (David) of Fayetteville; step-son Charles “Kevin” Carter (Emily) of Charleston, SC; grandchildren Tyler Charles Hall, Savanah Grace Hall “Turnip”, Addisyn Olivia Bass “Addie”, Caroline Carter, John Robert Carter, Eric Michael Kane and Jordan Lee Brooks, ten great-grandchildren and special cousin Lisa Matthews.
