James "Bob" Robert Gillis

James Robert “Bob” Gillis, age 83, of Broadway, NC, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at his home, with his family by his side.

He was born in Guilford County, NC on May 24, 1939 to the late Wilbur Gillis and Ella Maude Hall Gillis.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, of 60 years, Grace Marie Patterson Gillis; sons Paul Gillis and wife Frances, Cecil Pat Stewart, Jr.; brothers Bill Gillis, Junior Gillis; sister Jessie Patterson and Bob’s twin sister Roberta Paye.  Mr. Gillis worked many years in the apparel business as a sewing machine mechanic and retired from GKN Automotive as a machinist.  He was a member of Juniper Springs Baptist Church.

He is survived by his daughter Renee Gillis Hunter and husband Jeffrey of Sanford; grandchildren Morgan and Megan Hunter; brother Gary Gene Gillis of Chapel Hill; numerous nieces and nephews and special caregivers Brenda and Edna.

The family will receive friends Sunday, March 12, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Juniper Springs Baptist Church.  A graveside service will follow at 3:00 PM in the church cemetery with Pastor Eddie Thomas and Pastor John Hackney officiating.
