Jackie Carolyn (Thomas) Scanio

Jackie Thomas Scanio, age 88, of Norfolk, VA (formerly of Sanford, NC and Tampa, Florida) passed away Sunday, July 5, 2026 at Parkview Retirement Center in Sanford, NC.

She was born in Lee County, NC on February 14, 1938 to the late Waley Vestal Thomas and Ruby Kelly Thomas.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Alvin Scanio and sisters Mary Thomas Hurley, Bettye Thomas Davis and Norma Thomas Ray.

After being raised in Sanford, NC, Jackie attended Ringling College of Art & Design in Sarasota, Florida where she met her husband, Tom.  After graduation, she and Tom worked as professional artists in the Florida area.

Jackie is survived by her brother-in-law Bobby Hurley of Sanford, NC and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Per Jackie’s wishes, there will be no viewing or service.  She’ll be entombed Wednesday, July 22, 2026, 3:00 PM at Garden of Memories (Blount & Curry Funeral Home) in Tampa, Florida.
