Imogene Douglas Clegg died January 24th, 2022, at home in Apex, North Carolina. Imogene, born December 19, 1930, in Sanford to the late Ora and Hettie Douglas, married Alvis B. Clegg, Jr. Alvis’ employment with the CIA provided the family with many diverse living experiences.
After graduation from Campbell and Wake Forest Universities, Imogene worked at the First Baptist Church, Rocky Mount, NC and taught in Asheboro and Sanford, NC; Angola, Indiana; Oxon Hill, Maryland; Seoul, Korea; Okinawa, Japan; and Raleigh, NC.
Imogene was active in churches and schools everywhere she lived, Lee County Genealogical Society, and Clan Douglas Society. Volunteerism included the NC State Capitol, NC Archives, and teaching internationals (ESL).
Imogene was a loving mother and grandmother. She was kind to everyone and was one of the sweetest souls you could ever meet. She will be greatly missed.
Imogene was preceded in death by her husband, Alvis. Surviving are her son, Alan, of New Bern; daughter-in-love, Jennifer, of Apex; grandsons Andrew of Cary, and Brian of Raleigh. She is survived by her sister, Beatrice Finger, of Sanford.
A memorial service will be held at 6:30 pm on Thursday, January 27th, at Woodhaven Baptist Church in Apex with a visitation to follow.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Clegg Scholarship Endowment at either Campbell University, PO Box 116, Buies Creek, NC 27506, or North Carolina State University, Campus Box 7501, Raleigh, NC 27695-7501. Also, memorial contributions may be made to either Athens Drive Baptist Church in Raleigh or Woodhaven Baptist Church in Apex, NC.
At a later date, Mrs. Clegg will be inurned in the Columbarium at First Baptist Church of Sanford, NC next to her late husband Alvis.
