Horace Averitte Salmon, age 88, of Sanford, NC, passed away Thursday, November 18, 2021 at the FirstHealth Hospice House.
He was born in Moore County, NC on January 8, 1933 to the late Alex Reddin Salmon and Mae Fields Salmon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Billie Jean Salmon, Leon Salmon, and Reddin “Buddy” Salmon; sons-in-law Kenneth Lett and Tommy Britt. Horace was a long-time member of Grace Chapel Church and worked many years as a cabinet maker. He enjoyed fishing, sitting in his swing and visiting with his friends. He loved his Lord and Savior, and enjoyed reading God’s Word daily. He never met a stranger and was loved by all who came in contact with him.
He is survived by his wife, of 69 years, Shirley Hall Salmon; daughters Cindy Johnson and husband Mike of Sanford, Kay Britt of West End, Mary Thomas and husband Dave of Sanford; brother Roger Salmon of Carthage; sisters Shirley Hinesley of Connelly Springs, NC, Treva Godfrey and husband Harold of Sanford, Kathy Smith and husband Ralph of Carthage.
He is also survived by grandchildren Crystal Hennings and husband Bryan, Justin Britt and wife Briana, Eric Britt and wife Tara, Stacey McElveen and husband Brian, Dustin Lett and wife KayTea; great-grandchildren Michaela Kirby, Ava Grace Britt, Hudson Britt, Mason McElveen, Isabella McElveen and Colton McElveen; step-granddaughter Stephanie Thomas, and a very special friend and adopted grandson Travis Corley.
The family will receive friends Sunday, November 21, 2021 from 1:30 to 3:00 PM at Grace Chapel Church and other times at the family home. The funeral service will be at 3:00 PM with Pastor Joel Murr and Mr. Travis Corley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
