Geneva Collins Obituary

Geneva Rogers Collins, age 86, of Sanford, NC, passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at The Laurel’s of Chatham in Pittsboro.

She was born in Richmond, VA on August 1, 1936 to the late Walter Lee Rogers and Jessie Thompson Rogers.  Geneva was the last of her 9 brothers and sisters.  They grew up on a 100-acre farm in Boydton, Virginia and knew hard work and was very proud of her homeplace.  Geneva excelled academically and graduated as Valedictorian of her high school class.  Following high school, she attended cosmetology school but then worked 35 plus years in Long Beach, NC at the Red & White Store as their office manager.  She was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church in Southport, serving as Sunday school teacher and secretary.  Upon moving to Sanford, to be close to her daughters, she joined Grace Chapel Church.

She is survived by her daughters Diane Yarbrough of Surfside Beach, SC and Karen Reid (Jeff) of Sanford; grandchildren Kirsten Reid Watson (Matt) and Jana Reid Harrington (Hunter); and great-grandchildren Reid and Liam Watson.
