Genelle (Spivey) McDowell

Genelle Spivey McDowell, age 88, of Sanford, NC, passed away on December 26, 2025, at Parkview Independent Living surrounded by loved ones.

She was born in Lee County, NC on June 10, 1937 to the late H.K. Spivey, Sr. and Lessie Hall Spivey Morris.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John D. McDowell; daughter, Mary Angela Cameron and son-in-law Pieter Burr.  Her deceased siblings include H.K. Spivey, Jr., James Bryant Spivey, Margaret McKeever, Mildred Wilson, Lucille Everleigh, Bernice Nicholson, Joe Morris, and Mack Morris.

Genelle worked at Coty, Inc. for many years and in retirement loved working in her yard, gardening, and cooking delicious meals for her husband.  She greatly enjoyed spending time with her sisters.

Genelle is survived by her children, Donna Cameron Burr, Debra Cameron Bullard and husband, Doug, Allen Cameron, Mack Cameron and wife, Rhonda and Anthony Cameron and wife, Amy; siblings Catherine Brett, Frank Morris and Lewis Morris; her loving grandchildren include Janie, Kelly, Angela, Seth, Harold, Hope and Paige.  She was very proud of her four great-grandchildren, Blair, Charlie, Harrison and Marcus.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 3, 2026 from 1:00 PM until 1:50 PM at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.  A memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM with Chaplain Sam Garris officiating.
