Gary Bryant Ashworth, age 78, of Moncure, NC, died Monday, May 18, 2020 at his home with the love of his life, his wife Linda, by his side.
He was born in Lee County, NC on April 5, 1942 to the late Harry Lee Ashworth and Sadie Simpson Ashworth. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Irvin and Kent Ashworth. Gary graduated from Sanford Central High School and attended Western Carolina University. He worked as an Industrial Engineer but his greatest job was being a PaPa. He served our country in the United States Army during Vietnam and had the best stories of his time serving our country. He was a member of the American Legion. Most of all Gary loved the Lord and was an active member of Haywood Bible Church. He was a Sunday school teacher for the adult class, served as an usher, choir member and prepared the church bulletins every week. Gary was always willing to help the church and community.
He is survived by his wife Linda Peele Ashworth; children Mechelle Hash and husband Shelby of Cameron, Gail Thomas and husband Marty of Sanford, Amy Unger and husband Matthew of Sanford, Shane Whitt and wife Karen of Eagle Springs, Julie Crawford and husband Miles of Sanford, Jamie Ashworth and wife Christy of Fuquay-Varina; grandchildren Clayton Hash, Cody Hash, Brandon Thomas, Kristen Douglas, Jessica Goldston, Zoie Unger, Hailey Crawford, Reilly Ashworth, Archer Ashworth; great-grandchildren Jaxson Hash, Remington “Remi” Douglas, Connor Thomas, Hudson Hash and Cecil Hash.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 21, 2020 at 2:00 PM a Haywood Bible Church with Rev. Terry Pleasants and Rev. Mike Matson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one-hour prior to the funeral service at Haywood Bible Church from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Thursday and at other times at the family home.
