Freeman Totten

Freeman “Papa” Totten, age 79, of Sanford, NC, died peacefully Thursday, December 24, 2020 at his home.

He was born in Rockingham County, NC on March 4, 1941 to the late Cornelius Totten and Irene King Totten.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Lynda Carter Totten and son Russell Freeman Totten.  Freeman worked for the Airlines as a Ticket Agent.

Freeman was a social butterfly who loved people and people loved him.  He was a retired ticket agent for US Air and was a very active member of Grace Chapel Church.  He served as an usher and worked in many ministries of the church including AWANA.  Freeman was proud of the work he did with the prison ministry and ALANON.  Once Freeman accepted Christ into his life, he became a student of the Word; participating in Friday mornings men’s Bible studies.  In keeping with his servant’s heart, Freeman served in the United States Army.  Everyone will miss his hearty belly-laughs and funny sarcasm.  More than anything, Freeman loved the Lord and his family.  He wanted nothing more than to serve the Lord and surround himself with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter Dwan Gibbs Mitchell and husband Gregory Mitchell, Sr. of Charlotte; son Roland Douglas Totten of Virginia Beach, VA; daughter-in-law Lilianna Totten of Chicago; and 5 grandchildren Kaleigh Mitchell, Gregory Mitchell, Jr., Veronika Totten, Spencer Totten and Steeler “Gabby” Mitchell.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Grace Chapel Church Cemetery with Rev. Joel Murr officiating.  Friends are welcome to come by the funeral home to pay their respects Sunday through Monday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and Tuesday, 9:00 AM till Noon.
