Frederick "Fred" Lee Savina

Frederick “Fred” Lee Savina, age 77, of Sanford, NC, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at Wake Med Cary Hospital.

He was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia on June 20, 1948 to the late Frederick C. Savina and Myrtle Eloise Settles Savina.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Jimmy S. Savina.

Fred served our country in the United States Army.  In 1968 he toured in Vietnam and obtained many awards including; Army Service Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Commendation Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Good Conduct Medal, Expert Badge M-16 and Overseas Service Bars.  Fred took advanced mechanic maintenance courses and retired with a Rank E-7, SFC.  He was proud of his service to our country.

Fred was a lifetime member of DAV and was a member of Hunt Springs Baptist Church.  Fred enjoyed taking trips on his motorcycle with his loving wife, Carolyn by his side.  Fishing and golfing were two of his favorite hobbies.  He was an excellent mechanic and helped many companies with their maintenance including Carter-Webber and Greenscape. 

Fred loved and served his Lord Jesus, family, church, and friends. He quietly provided for the needs of children and others. He supported his church, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and the Shriners’ Children’s Hospital for Kids. He enjoyed performing magic shows for kids and adults. He loved sharing meals and fellowship with friends and family. 

He is survived by his wife Carolyn Keye Savina; son Frederick Lee Savina, II; brother Jack Savina (Debbie); sister Joyce Lowther; grandson Kyle Savina; granddaughter Rebecca Stump (Billy).

The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 30, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Hunt Springs Baptist Church.  The funeral service will begin at 3:00 PM with Pastor Wesley Thomas officiating.  Burial will follow at Jonesboro Cemetery with Military Honors.
