Franklin “Jack” Mack Womack, age 82, of Sanford, NC, passed away Monday, May 9, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Harnett County, NC on October 26, 1939 to the late Willis Mack Womack and Mattie May Matthews Womack. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Billy Ray Womack. Jack graduated from Broadway High School. He was an accomplished machinest with Saco-Lowell and Whitin Roberts. He was a perfectionist and took great pride in his work.
Jack was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving in the missile division in Germany. He liked to joke about how important he was because he had to have special clearance for his job. After completing his tour of duty he married Linda Sloan and moved to the Deep River Community. He enjoyed working in his garden and sharing his “best ever” tomatoes with family and friends. He also liked to fish and coon hunt. Jack was a life-long member of Juniper Springs Baptist Church and enjoyed going to Zion Christian Church for special occasions.
He is survived by his wife, of almost 57 years, Linda Way Sloan Womack; daughter Denise Womack Spartz and husband Jay of Sanford; grandchildren Matthew Spartz and wife Brittany of Broadway, Sarah Spartz of Sanford; siblings Jean Cummings of Broadway, Richard Womack and wife Jo of Broadway, Faye Thomas and husband Steve of Sanford, Frances Williams of Bear Creek and Junior Womack and wife Peggy of Sanford.
The funeral service will be Thursday, May 12, 2022 at 3:00 PM at Juniper Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Eddie Thomas, Rev. John Hackney and Rev. Steve Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Christian Church Cemetery with military honors. There will be no formal visitation but everyone is welcome to visit at the family home.
