Emmanuel Abrahan (Manny) Finicum

Emmanuel Abrahan “Manny” Finicum of Whispering Pines passed away on Friday, May 10, at Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Manny was born in Zacapa, Guatemala and adopted by LeeAnn and Scott Finicum when he was 13 months old. Manny excelled at anything and everything he set his mind to. Soccer was his first passion. Manny played in his first league at the age of three. His competitive drive and absolute refusal to give up boosted his speed and strong left foot and Manny scored many a goal from his favored position at left wing. Later weightlifting became Manny's passion and he was in the gym every day, if possible, lifting for several hours.

Manny had a big heart but wasn’t one to tip his hand, at times preferring to appear stoic or cautious. Those who got to know Manny were rewarded with glimpses of his myriad physical, comedic, and musical gifts. Manny participated in several mission trips with his United Methodist youth group, serving in soup kitchens in Washington,  D.C., doing home repairs and painting in S.C., and building wheelchair ramps in Western N.C. He was a hard worker and always made those around him laugh. He had such a soft spot for animals, too, especially pets Sparky, Holmes and Watson.

Manny is survived by his parents, Scott and LeeAnn Finicum and brother, Isaac Finicum of the home; grandmother Frances Finicum of Arlington, T.X.; aunts Suzy Rich of Southern Shores, N.C.,and Tina Finicum and Katherine Devoe of Arlington, T.X.; uncles Will Woodard of Southern Shores, N.C., Dorr Finicum and Charles Finicum of Arlington, TX., and cousins Leo Woodard, Maggie and Carter Finicum and Christian Devoe.

The Finicum family will receive visitors on Tuesday, May 14th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the parlor at St. Luke's UMC, Sanford, located at  2916 Wicker St, Sanford, NC 27330.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Pinehurst United Methodist Church located at 4111 Airport Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374.
