Eloise Berryman Obituary

Eloise Thomas Berryman, age 93, of Sanford, NC, passed away Mond;ay, June 27, 2022 at Westfield Retirement Center.  She was born in Lee County, NC on April 24, 1929 to the late Arch Thomas and Ellen McKernon Thomas.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Charles “Tommy” Lynn Berryman, Sr.; son Charles Lynn Berryman, Jr.  and daughter-in-law Joy Berryman.

Eloise grew-up as a well-loved, often spoiled only child.  She was accustomed to having her way and had a very out-going personality.  She was athletic and enjoyed participating in sports and watching sporting events.  Tennis and bowling were two of her favorites.  When Eloise married “Tommy” Berryman, she became a loving wife, a good daughter-in-law to his four sisters.  Later she became a loving, doting mother to Lynn and Eddie.  She loved spoiling them and encouraging them to participate in sports and all kinds of activities.  Nothing made her happier than loading up the station wagon amd transporting them to swim meets and ball games.  The more the merrier.  Always very involved in volunteering to help with school functions and their activities, Eloise was energetic, cheerful and fun.

When Lynn and Eddie married, Eloise became a very good mother-in-law to Dail and Joy, treating them like the daughters she never had.  She enjoyed being “Grandma B” or “Weezy”.

For over fifty years, Eloise worked as the admission cashier at local theaters, primarily Kendale Cinema until its closing. It was a job she really enjoyed.  After retiring, she became more involved with church activities and especially enjoyed helping arrange flowers for dinners and special events.  Her First Presbyterian Church family was very important to her.  She was also very active in the Sanford Womens’ Club.  Eloise will be remembered for her energy, her strength and spirit.  She was a “fashionista”.  She adorned pretty clothes, jewelry, getting her hair and nails done.  She loved shopping with pals, playing bridge, decorating for the holidays, especially Christmas.  Eloise was an excellent cook, was known as “the cat lady” for always having numerous cats and an avid collector.  She will always be remembered for her habit, for many years of always being late.  She was most likely greeted in heaven by Tommy with a big smile and the words “Well, it took you long enough”!

She is survived by her son Thomas Edward “Eddie” Berryman of Sanford; grandchildren Patrick & Linda Berryman of Sanford, Lindsey Berryman Yow & Jason of Sanford, Timothy Andrew Berryman & Amy of Apex, Christine Berryman; great-grandchildren Maya Berryman, Tyler Berryman, Sully Berryman, Abraham Berryman, Dawson Yow, Madison Yow, Caitlyn Snavley and Aidyn Snavley; former daughter-in-law Dail Dowdy of Sanford and loving friend and caregiver Vicky Anderson.
