Elizabeth Iola (Brown) Carter

Columbia, SC – Elizabeth Iola Carter, 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 28, 2025.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, May 5, 2025, at Haywood Independent Bible Church Cemetery in Moncure, North Carolina. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

Born in Sanford, North Carolina, Elizabeth was the daughter of the late Amos Curtis Brown and Nellie Mae Womble Brown. She graduated from Deep River School in Sanford in 1954 and later attended Peace College in Raleigh.

Elizabeth was a devoted member of the Irmo community, where she spent 20 years working in the cafeteria at Irmo High School. She was beloved by students and staff alike for her kindness and caring spirit. A faithful member of Union United Methodist Church in Irmo, she cherished the fellowship and worship she found there.

She will be remembered for her warm heart, gentle strength, and the joy she found in time spent with her family and friends. Her legacy of love and generosity will continue to inspire all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her siblings, Ray Brown and Jerry Brown.

She is survived by her three children, Sheila Gillease (Chris Cooper), Roger Walter Carter, Jr. (Shelby Wooten), and Kenneth Carter (Mandy); five grandchildren, Graham Gillease, Zachary Carter, Logan Gillease, Staton Carter, and Ellie Carter.
