Edward “Ed” David Holt, 91, went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 14, 2020 while at home surrounded by his family. Ed was known for his love for the Lord, his family and maintaining a high degree of integrity.
Ed was a soldier in the United States Army and fought proudly in the Korean War. He was a Tool and Die Maker by profession and retired from Lufkin. Ed was a lifetime member of Zion Christian Church.
Having spent much of his life in Deep River, Ed was known by all who knew him as a man who would draw you into a story of times past and capture your attention with history and intrigue. A man who enjoyed a good laugh and known to be a jokester, would oftentimes spin a tall tale and before you knew it, have you laughing with his crafty sense of humor.
Ed was an accomplished golfer and played in several leagues over the years. He was also a diehard fan of all things Tarheel. “Go Heels!”
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marjorie McNeill Holt, daughter Donna Holt, son Rodney Holt, daughter Sheila Holt Thompson and her husband Alex, 2 grandchildren, Meagan Thompson Leiton and her husband Will, Jared Thompson and his wife Kato, and 1 great grandchild, Liam Leiton.
Ed was one of 11 brothers and sisters and is also survived by his sister Ruth Holt Morrison and brother William “Junior” Wesley Holt Jr.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, October 18, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Zion Christian Church with Rev. Matt Austin and Rev. Steve Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends following the services in the church fellowship hall and at other times at the family home.
