Edith Mae Wilson Gunter, age 78 of Sanford, NC, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 30, 2020 at her home with her family by her side.

She was born in Lee County on July 19, 1942 to the late Carlie Wilson and Beulah Mae Edwards Wilson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, James (Jimmy) Daniel Gunter and by a brother, Harold Wilson. Edith was a loving wife and mother who was an excellent cook and devoted her time to the PTA at her children’s school. She thought of others by organizing bake sales to assist those in need.

She is survived by son, Danny Gunter and wife, Dawn of Sanford; daughters, Debbie Gunter Causey and fiancé, Tony Oldham of Carbonton and Vicky Gunter Daniels and husband, Nelson of Sanford; sister, Judy Godfrey of Sanford; grandchildren Tonya Carver, Travis Causey, D.J. Gunter, Katie Daniels Baker, Morgan Gunter Whitaker and Cameron Daniels; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Gunter will lie-in-state for friends to come pay their respects, at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home on Sunday, November 1, 2020 from 9:00 AM to 1:45 PM. Funeral services will be private due to Covid-19 per the family’s request.
