Douglas “Doug” Edwin Womack, age 55, of Sanford, NC, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at his home, with his family by his side.
Born in Louisville, Kentucky on April 24, 1970, Doug is survived by his mother Judy Lynn Cameron; father James Edwin “Eddie” Womack (Liz); wife, of 30 years, April Hammer Womack; daughter Hayley Jo Womack (Nick Gay); son Hunter Womack (Jessica); brother Joseph “Joey” Lewis Womack (Allison); grandchildren Rivie Bea Womack, Hudson Beau Womack (on the way); brother-in-law and sister-in-law Phillip and Sheila Mauldin; nieces Fharren (Aaron) McKeever, Jamie (Kel) Dixon; nephews Joseph (Breann) Womack, James Womack; father-in-law Tommy Hammer; mother-in-law Jerrie Webb and his best buddy and emotional support dog Jax.
Doug was a Police Officer with the Sanford Police Department from 1996 until 2016. For many years Doug served on the Board of Directors for Benhaven Emergency Services. His life was devoted to helping others and doing the right thing. His sense of humor was unmatched and he gave that feeling of laughter, love and care to his family and neighbors. He was born to protect and serve.
The family will receive friends Saturday, September 6, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 12:50 PM at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home and other times at the family home. A memorial service will begin at 1:00 PM with Chaplain Iris Jordan officiating and Mr. Phillip Mauldin speaking. His cremains will be buried, at a later date, in a private family gathering.
