Doris Womble Dowdy, age 74, of the Deep River Community in Lee County, NC, died Monday, February, 10, 2020, at her home, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Lee County, NC on January 17, 1946 to the late Clarence Gordon Womble and Lobera Johnson Womble. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother Gerald Womble. Doris graduated from Deep River High School Class of 1964 and East Carolina College (now, East Carolina University). She worked many years as an elementary teacher in many schools in our area and worked almost 20 years in the Continuing Education Department at Central Carolina Community College.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years David Dowdy; son Rev. Kenneth Dowdy and wife Robin; daughter Cynthia Parker and husband Mike all of the Deep River Community; brothers Raymond Womble and wife Peggy, Wayne Womble and wife Dorothy, all of Sanford; grandchildren Alison Dowdy Brown and husband Kye, Hanna Dowdy and Blake, Jordan Lanier, Cody Lanier and wife Katlynn, Casey Lanier, Michaela Parker, John Parker and wife Shannon,; great-grandchildren Matthew Hampson, James Allen Lanier, Sarah Lanier, Ella Parker, Maddy Parker, Montana Brown and Braxton Brown.
A graveside service will be held Friday, February 14, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Zion Christian Church Cemetery with Rev. Kenneth Dowdy officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside service in the fellowship hall of the church and other times at the family home.
