Donny Blanton Campbell, 71, of Sanford, passed away peacefully on Saturday (1/30/21) at his home.
A life-long resident of Sanford, he grew up on his family farm and then worked for many years in private industry in the Sanford area, including Whitin Roberts Company, Betta Mold and Tool and Federal Molding. He retired from Central Carolina Community College after serving 18 years as the Lead Mechanical Engineering instructor, teaching Computer Aided Drafting and Computer Aided Manufacturing. After retirement, he did contract work with other businesses, including Hyster-Yale in Greenville, and John Deere Corp. and Southbend, both in Fuquay-Varina. Donny was a brilliant engineer and problem-solver, always looking for ways to fix something and invent something new.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ervin Harrington Campbell and Mazelle Warner Campbell; his brother, Larry Ervin Campbell; and his first wife, Carolyn McNeill Campbell.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Amy Goins Campbell of Sanford; two daughters, Julie Campbell Woodson (Steve) of Raleigh and Crystal Campbell Morrison (Michael) of Todd; three step-children, Brittany Strickland of Hope Mills and Ellie Pilioglos of Fayetteville, and James Pilioglos of Greenville; and four grandchildren, Will and Drew Woodson and Max and Lily Morrison; and two step-grandchildren, Amiyah and A.J. McLean. He is also survived by his two sisters, Gloria Campbell McKay (Jimmie) of Newport News, Va., and Peggy Campbell Kennedy (Bob).
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday (2/3/2021) at the Holly Springs Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. Scott Yow officiating.
