Debra “Dee” Fogleman Hughes, age 72, of the Deep River Community, passed away Saturday, August 17, 2024 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Lee County, NC on Saturday, August 16, 1952 to the late George William Fogleman and Jennie McNeill Fogleman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Charles William “Bill” Fogleman and her father and mother-in-law Elvin Eugene Hughes and Ida Holland Hughes.
Dee was a member of Zion Christian Church and she enjoyed listening to gospel music, especially the Gaither’s Homecoming albums. She worked for W. Kourey Company, Herman Miller, where she was able to earn her Associate’s Degree from Central Carolina Community College. She also worked 16 years in the Registrar’s office for the college. Dee collected clowns, angels and loved watching her hummingbirds. Dee also enjoyed reading and word-searches. More than anything, Debbie loved her husband, daughter, son-in-law, grandson and extended family. She loved and appreciated her bonus caregiver who was with her during these latest health battles. Even through her health issues and pain, she always had a smile on her face and a sweetness to her spirit because of her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Debra is survived by her husband, of 54 years, Billy Ray Hughes; daughter Wendy Hughes Carlyle and husband Brian; grandson Blake Carlyle; sister-in-law Mary Fogleman; siblings Sheryl F. Kelly and husband Reggie, Audrey F. Hudson and husband Bill, Roger Fogleman and wife Rhonda; brother and sister-in-law Gene and Louise Hughes and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Zion Christian Church with Rev. Ward Haas and Rev. Steve Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the services in the church fellowship hall and other times at the family home.
