Debra “Debbie” Stone Underwood, age 66, of Sanford, NC, passed away peacefully at her home on June 20, 2025, with her family by her side.
She was born in Lee County, NC, on February 18, 1959, to the late Sherrill Lee Stone and Janice Jackson Stone. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Lee Stone, and her infant son, Little Willie.
Debbie was a homemaker, and her home was always open. Known for her unwavering faith and deep compassion, she was a source of strength and encouragement to everyone who knew her. A proud breast cancer survivor, Debbie faced life’s challenges with courage and grace. Her strength was matched only by her deep belief in God’s purpose and love. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her husband of 38 years, Willie Underwood, Jr., of Sanford, NC; sons, Chad Thomas and spouse Amanda of Hubert, NC, and Jeremy Stone and spouse Kayleigh of Sanford, NC; daughter, Crystal Burris and spouse Chris of Sanford, NC; sisters, Patty Bobnis and spouse Dave of Monroe, NC, and Penny DelGiudice of Sanford, NC. She is also survived by six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Calvary Church of Olivia. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Curtis Norris officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
