Deborah Gaye Frye Freeman, age 69, of Sanford, NC, passed away Friday, June 17, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born in Moore, County on September 19, 1952, to the late Everette B. “Cap” Frye and Mary Lemons Frye. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Craig Freeman; granddaughter, Valarie Hutchens and a special aunt, Geneva Lemons Matthews.
Gaye worked many years with Lee County Department of Social Services as a supervisor and assisted in the development of the Human Services curriculum at Central Carolina Community College. She was a participant in the Sanford Relay for Life for ten years. Gaye was also a board member of the County of Lee Transportation System and Employment Security Commission, co-director of Fellowship for Adult Christians which was a community interdenominational Bible study group and a member of the Lee County Department of Social Services Management Team. She considered it a blessing to serve the citizens of Lee County.
She is survived by son, Bobby Charles Hutchens Jr. and wife Amanda Neal Hutchens of Sanford; daughter, Allison Freeman Willis of Sanford; grandchildren, Zachary Hutchens, Wyatt Hutchens, Ava Hutchens and Sophia Freeman; brothers, Everette “Brooks” Frye, Jr. of Sanford and Eric Kipling “Kip” Frye of Sanford; nephew, William “Bud” Frye of Sanford; two nephews, Little Bud Frye and Hunter Frye and many special friends who she cherished and loved dearly.
The family will receive friends on Monday, June 20, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home. The service will follow at 11:00 AM in the chapel with Rev. Robert Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Center United Methodist Church Cemetery.
