David Tommy Wicker, Sr.

David Tommy Wicker, Sr. “Tommy”, age 72, of the Deep River Community in Sanford, NC, died Saturday, December 8, 2018 at his home.

Tommy was born in Lee County on December 21, 1945 to the late Hobart Braxton Wicker and Ruby Emma Marks Wicker.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by siblings Jimmy Wicker, Markie Wicker Thomas, Hubert Wicker and granddaughter Emma Grace Wicker.  Tommy was a graduate of Deep River High School, Class of 1964 and the Durham Barber Institute.  Tommy owned and operated Wicker Barber Shop since 1980 and was an insurance agent for Lincoln Life.  He was a life-long member of Zion Christian Church.

Tommy is survived by his wife, of 50 years, Nancy Porter Wicker; sons David Tommy Wicker Jr. “David” and fiancé Anne Fallin of Sanford, Michael Braxton Wicker and special friend Joan Wiggins of Youngsville, NC; brothers Hobert Dee Wicker and wife Sandra of Deep River; sister-in-law Linda Ball Wicker of Deep River; brother-in-law Jimmie Thomas and wife Judy of Sanford; and grandchildren Braxton, Landon, Bailey and Kyndall.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Zion Christian Church with Rev. Steve Johnson officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall and at other times at the family home.
