David Wayne Spivey, age 87 of Sanford, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Central Carolina Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
David was born on June 3, 1938, in Lee County, North Carolina, to the late Walter Temple Spivey and Catherine Stone Spivey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved son, Walter Dudley Spivey: brothers, Horace Spivey and Elmore Spivey; and half-siblings, Howard Spivey, Mabel Dudley, Clayton Spivey, Helen Jackson, and Wilton Flenniken.
A graduate of Greenwood High School and Devry Technical Institute, David also served honorably in the North Carolina National Guard. He spent much of his career with Mac’s Business Machines before joining the Cumberland County Schools and later the Lee County Schools, where he eventually retired. A man of steadfast faith, David was a lifelong member of Grace Chapel Church.
David is survived by his devoted wife, Sylvia (Linda); daughter, Crystal Burke of Newport, NC; and grandsons, Raymond Austin Burke of Dallas, TX, and David Taylor Burke of Sanford, NC.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at Grace Chapel Church Cemetery, officiated by Mr. Travis Corley and Pastor Joel Murr.
While there will be no formal visitation, Mr. Spivey will lie-in-state at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home on Friday, September 12, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM, and Saturday, September 13, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM, for those who wish to pay their respects.
