Crystal (Starr) Garner

Crystal Starr Garner, age 58, of Sanford, NC, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at her home.

 She was born in Moore County on February 24, 1964, to the late Orvel Starr, Jr. and Juanita Mae Harkey Starr.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, James Lanny Whitaker, II.  Crystal loved taking care of her family - she became known as the “medical advisor” and would offer solicited and unsolicited medical advice. She will be remembered for her caring, loving and giving heart and will be deeply missed.

Crystal is survived by her husband of 17 years, Tony; daughter-in law, Melissa Whitaker of Carthage; five brothers, David Starr and wife Linda, Richard Starr and Norma Black, Rodney Starr and wife Susie, Tony Starr and wife Rebecca, and Gary Starr and wife Kim all of Sanford; three sisters, Rita Kreusch of Lillington, Patty Oakley and husband Buck of Cameron and Lisa Perry and husband Michael of Pittsboro; two special grandchildren, Andrew Whitaker and Aiden Whitaker; two very special nieces, Ashley Cooley and Brieanna Starr; great-niece, Adalynn Cooley and many other nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends at the family home (508 Petty Road, Sanford, NC).  In keeping with Crystal’s wishes, a private, family graveside service will be held at Farmville Community Cemetery with Rev. Lacy Fry officiating. 

The family would like to thank Dr. Robert McConville for the excellent care provided to Crystal over the years.
