Christopher Lee Johnson, age 63, of Sanford, NC, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2025 at his home, surrounded by his family, following a courageous two year battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born in Lee County on July 11, 1961 to Marvin Lee Johnson and Marie Verbena Rutledge Hann. Chris graduated from Lee Senior High School in 1979. He went on to study at Central Carolina Community College and worked 37 years at GKN in Sanford, NC. He also owned and operated his business, Chris Johnson Woodshop where he made anti-static table workstations for Conveyor Technologies.
In 1980 he met his spouse and future wife, Ruth Hubbell. They married in 1982 and went on to have three children. Chris was a strong Christian man. He loved the Lord and his family. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife Ruth Hubbell Johnson; children Linda Sue Mari Reeves of Sanford, Bryan Lee Johnson of Greensboro, Hannah Grace Johnson of Sanford; brother Jeffrey Johnson and wife Lisa of Siler City; half-sister April Hammond and husband J of Carthage; grandchildren Shane Cameron, Chris Cameron, Bryce Lee Johnson and 4 great-grandchildren.
Chris was the first patient to undergo CAR-T Cell Therapy for Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer at UNC Hospital. He considered it an honor and privilege to help future pancreatic cancer patients beat this deadly disease.
A Memorial Service will be held Monday, January 6, 2025 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Thomas, Mr. Jerry Atkins, Susan Vertoukian and Mr. Steve Fields officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
