Chon "Cindy" Chong (Ok) Cheek

Chon Chong Ok Cheek “Cindy”,  age 72, of Sanford passed away at her home on Monday, May 12, 2025.

Cindy was born and raised in Korea.  She met the love of her life and soulmate John Michael “Mike” Cheek while he was serving in the US Army and stationed in Korea.  Prior to retiring, she worked many years at Wal-Mart.  Known for her infectious laugh and unwavering spirit; Cindy had a heart as bold as her laughter. She was smart, feisty, funny, and unafraid to speak her mind.  She loved her family fiercely, with a strength and devotion that defined every part of her life.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory a sister, On Jung Mi of Korea; brother-in-law Robert Cheek of Sanford; nieces Angela Zamudio and Candace Whitley, both of Sanford; great-nieces Samantha Zamudio and Marissa Whitley; great-nephews Gavin Whitley and R.J. Sumey. She also leaves behind her constant companion, her beloved dog, Sushi. 

At Cindy’s request there will be no services.  She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Mike in Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery (7019 Pleasant Hill Church Road, Siler City, NC) on Thursday. May 15, 2025 at 11:00 AM.
