Bobby Ray Kelly, age 90, of Sanford, NC, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Lee County to the late Lee Roy Kelly and Lucy Iola Hipp Kelly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Josephine “Jo” Tarpey Kelly; brothers John H. Barley, Billy Barley, Lee Roy Kelly, Jr., and Tommy Kelly; sisters Jessie Wicker, Betty Morrison, Barbara O’Quinn and Lois Kelly Wallace.
Bobby worked more than 50 years at Cherokee Brick. He enjoyed water skiing on the river, taking his children and grandchildren roller skating and rabbit hunting. He was incredible at all these adventures. He will be missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter Susie Kelly Thomas (Joel Oldham); son Johnnie Kelly (Sally); sisters Catherine Williams and Helen Rosser; grandchildren Victoria Gunter (Jarren) and Zachary Thomas all of Sanford.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at 3:00 PM at Turners Chapel Church Cemetery (1344 Colon Road, Sanford, NC 27330) at 3:00 PM with Rev. Steve Johnson and Rev. Jimmy Talton officiating. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the graveside service and other times at 681 Cotten Road, Sanford, NC 27330.
