Bill J. Kirby, of Sanford, died unexpectedly Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at his home.
Bill was born on June 7, 1944 to the late Lucille D. Kirby and Shula Alexander Kirby. He was also preceded in death by siblings, Barbara K. Maddox, JoAnn K. Liles, S.A. Kirby, Jr. (child), Sam Kirby and Larry Kirby. Bill is survived by siblings Susan K. Smith (Jack) of Georgia, Nancey Kirby, and Judy Kirby Grissom (Thomas) and Robert Kirby all of Sanford.
The family genealogist, Bill was a cornerstone organizer of the Kirby reunions. He loved giving out “Best Of” trophies at the end of every reunion. He was an Army Veteran (S5), a member of the Raleigh and Sanford Bike Clubs – riding many sanctioned 100-mile treks thought-out North Carolina, South Carolina and has the “patches” to prove it. A gifted guitar “picker” taught by his dad. He loved books. He was a design engineer at Conveyor Technologies for many years before retirement
A memorial service will be held in the mountains of North Carolina at his ancestral Baptist church, Piney Grove at a safe date.
