Betty (Smith) Alvarado

Betty Thomas Smith Alvarado, age 83, of Sanford, NC, passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 peacefully at her home. She was a legend in the Deep River Community. 

She was born in Lee County on February 19, 1937 to the late Sidney Walter Thomas and Bessie Beal Thomas.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her late husband, Max Smith, Sr.; daughters, Pam Smith and Terry-Lynn Smith; son, Timothy Smith; and brother, Robert Thomas.  Betty worked for many years as a real estate broker.

She is survived by husband, Eugene Alvarado of the home; children, Max Smith, Jr. and wife, Becky of Sanford; Sandra Berndt of Sanford, Johnny Smith and wife, Helen of Sanford and Barry Smith of Sanford; grandchildren; April Stone and husband, Michael, Amber Smith and husband, Brad, Daniel Berndt and wife, Mechelle, Alexandra Dowdy and husband, Mitchell, Brittany Creaseman and husband, Johnathan, Josh Smith, Aaron Smith, Matthew Smith, Sawyer Smith and Jacob Smith; Great-grandchildren, Christopher Stone, Terri-Lynn Delaney Stone, Jeremy Johnson,  Cole Dowdy, Jace Smith, Josiah Smith, Aleighna Smith, Aaron Smith, Jr., and Alyssa Smith.

Graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at 4:00 PM at Flat Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor John Hinson officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service and other times at the family home, 1641 Deep River Road.
