Barry Nelson Dowdy

Barry Nelson Dowdy, age 69, of Broadway, NC, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2025 at his home, with his family by his side.

He was born in Lee County, NC on September 25, 1955 to Carson Dowdy and Dorothy “Dot” Eades Dowdy.  His father preceded him in death.  Barry worked many years as an automotive parts sales representative at Holt Truck & Tractor and the Chevrolet dealership.  He was also a self-made entrepreneur and owned Sports Guides and Logo Shak where is bought and sold sports memorabilia of all kinds.  Barry was a known jokester and got a thrill from his pranks and was an avid Duke fan.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, of 46 years (but known for 62 years), Beth Love Dowdy; daughter Bree Dowdy Burgess and husband Alex of Coleridge and sister Lynne Kelly and husband John of Pinehurst.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 29, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be held in the Chapel of the funeral home Wednesday, July 30th at 11:00 AM with Rev. Robert Thomas officiating. 

Burial will follow at 1:00 PM in the Alloway Cemetery, 631 W. 4th Ave., Red Springs, NC 28377.
