Barbara Ann (Tolley) Walker

Barbara Tolley Walker, age 87 of Sanford, NC, passed away Monday, August 5, 2024.

Barbara was born in Lynchburg, VA on September 27, 1936 to the late Hiram Howe Tolley and Lula Bell Slough Tolley. Barbara received her LPN from the University of Virginia and her BSN from North Carolina A&T University and served as a nurse for 50 years.  She worked in hospitals, home health, Hospice, and nursing homes.   She was also ordained and served as a hospital chaplain and minister of music at Lindley Park and Northern Guilford Baptist Churches in Greensboro, NC.    Barbara was talented in both music and art as well as nursing.   Many people have been blessed through each of these gifts.   Barbara loved animals and always lit up a room any time she entered. 

Barbara is preceded in death by her husband Vernon E. Walker and her daughter-in-law Sandra Walker.  She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Tuttle (Ralph); son Russell Walker; daughter Sherrie Wood (John); son Karl Walker, 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 10, 2024 in the Chapel at Hayes Barton Baptist Church, 1800 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC.
