Barbara Rose Morton

Barbara Smith Morton, age, 80, of Sanford, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 15, 2026 at Central Carolina Hospital, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Lee County, on June 15, 1945 to the late Hallie Curtis Smith and Ruby Lee Smith.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Foy Jennings Morton “Gin”; daughter, Veronica Morton Green, brothers Jimmy, Bill and Lloyd Smith, sister Shirley Herbin and granddaughter Jessica Goins. 

Barbara spent her adult life working as a factory worker and raising her 8 children which kept her very busy.  She was a member of Kendale Acres Freewill Baptist Church.  She enjoyed camping and spending time outdoors.  But most of all, she enjoyed time spent with her precious family.

She is survived by her sons, Paul Goins, Vernon Morton (Angel), Jesse Goins (Carol) and Reid Morton (Brandy); daughters, Vicky Miller (Gerald), Jenny Morton Thacker and Courtney Clack (Michael); brother Robert Smith (Cassandra); grandchildren Heather, Kristen, Eric, Jason, Cody, Chelsie, Taylor, Sebastion, Shanna, Gera, Ryana, Sarah, Faith, Gerald Jr., Mary, Angel, Corey, Hallie, Ebony, Brent, JJ, Danteya, Jordan, Austin, Nathan  and many beloved great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 from 1:00 PM until 2:50 PM at Kendale Acres Church.  Funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM with Rev. Doug Western officiating.  Burial will be in Poplar Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery.
