Aubrey Clyde Watson

Aubrey Clyde Watson, age 89 of the Deep River Community in Lee County, NC, passed away Monday, June 28, 2021 at Central Carolina Hospital.

He was born in Chatham County, NC on April 28, 1932 to the late Benny Edward Watson and Esther Mae Wilkie Watson.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine Bjork and brother, James Watson.  Clyde served our country in the United States Coast Guard and retired after a long career in education.  He taught math and science for the Lee and Chatham County School Systems.  He also was a physical education teacher and coach for several years.  Clyde held a pilot’s license, including his twin-engine license.  He managed the Sanford Airport for a short time and was a manager of the Fort Bragg Flying Club at Simmons Air Force Base.  He was a faithful member and a Sunday School Teacher, for almost 50 years, for the WC Harward Sunday School Class at Flat Springs Baptist Church.

Clyde is survived by his wife Peggy Kelly Watson; sons Lynn Watson and wife Cindy of Franklin, NC, Kelly Watson and wife Monika of Sanford, NC, Darrell Watson and wife Patricia of Georgia; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 1, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Flat Springs Baptist Church with Dr. Gary McCollough and Rev. Jim Brady officiating.  The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service.
