Ann Wetzel, beloved wife and mother, passed away peacefully when the Lord came to take her home on January 19, 2020.
She was born on May 20, 1923 in Apshawa, New Jersey to the late Minerva and Fred Struble and was the youngest of nine children. Ann lived a full and joy-filled life for 96 years. Her life revolved around her family and her faith and she was known lovingly to many as “St. Ann” who would pray the rosary daily for anyone in need. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Stephen Catholic Church and had a great devotion to Mary (the Mother of God).
She was a wonderful Mom to her children, was called Nana by her grandchildren (along with any and all children she ever knew), and “Great Mommy” to her great-grandchildren, “Mama Wetzel” and “Miss Ann” to those who loved her.
She was probably best known for her dazzling smile that would light up any room and lift the spirits of all who saw her. She found joy in the simplest of pleasures and spent everyday taking care of and enjoying time with family and friends. She enjoyed her weekly outings to Angie’s Breakfast Barn and Tramway Diner.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years John Martin Wetzel, Sr. and her son John Wetzel, Jr. Ann is survived by her three children, Pat Coyle (Bill) of Cary, Mary Lou Hall (John) of Sanford and Steven Wetzel (Elise) of Shallotte. She was blessed with fourteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren who will all mourn her loss but take solace in the knowledge that she has been reunited with her Lord and all her family members who have passed on before her.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at 10:00 AM at St. Stephen Catholic Church with Fr. Hector LaChapelle and Deacon Mark Westrick officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Memory Gardens.
