Alicia Josephine (O'Neil) Dalrymple

A light of this world, Alicia Josephine O’Neil Dalrymple, at the ripe age of 95, peacefully and painlessly passed away in the bright and sunny morning hours of Tuesday, November 9th, 2021, in Cary, NC.  Born in Manhattan, NY, she was the daughter of John and Anna Darlington O’Neil; both of Irish descent from New York.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Clyde Dalrymple and sisters Anastasia O’Neil Robinson of Running Springs, CA and Elizabeth O’Neil Doyle of Killeen, TX.

Lee is survived by her 4 children: Laura Dalrymple, Sharon Keating, Billy Dalrymple, and Lisa Dalrymple, all of North Carolina; grandchildren Alex Dalrymple of Charlottesville, VA along with Bryan and Chris Dalrymple both of NC; and great-grandchildren Rhett and Raelynne of NC along with William and John Dalrymple of VA.

She was an Irish Catholic city gal from New York City who by chance, fate, or luck, met the love of her life, William Dalrymple, a Scottish Protestant farm boy of North Carolina while he was stationed there with the U.S. Army.  Having no need for driving in the city, she did not know how to operate a car.  A life of adventure, of highs and lows, and of fulfilling purpose commenced following Bills offering her driving lessons; an adventure as a military wife that would take them and their growing family across the world from Germany to Taiwan.  They were married on March 2, 1957, at the Church of St. Joseph in Killeen, TX.  After a full career, they settled back down on William Dalrymple’s family farm where she became a farm wife and a respected member within her community.

She was a woman of unshakeable faith, a lover of Angels, flowers, and animals.  Her spirit lives on in each and every one of her descendants unto eternity.

A graveside service will be held at Salem Presbyterian Church in Sanford, North Carolina with Pastor Julie Hughes officiating and her grandson Christopher Dalrymple eulogizing on Saturday, November 20th, 2021, at 11:00 AM.  All friends, family, and flowers are welcome.
