Mr. Wayne Bullard, age 82, of Sanford, NC, passed away Sunday, December 30, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.
Mr. Bullard was born May 21, 1936 in Lee County. He was the son of the late Charles Carson Bullard and Velma Wicker Bullard. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael Wayne Bullard; an infant daughter; siblings, Mary Colleen Bullard, Robert Lee Bullard, Calvin Monroe Bullard, Ruth Bullard Lawrence, and Charles Lester Bullard.
Mr. Bullard was a Veteran of the United States Army. He worked at Saco-Lowell Shops for approximately 15 years until the plant relocated to South Carolina. He also ran Wayne’s Grocery, a small country store, for several years. Mr. Bullard was well-known for his skills in growing flue-cured tobacco. Following his retirement from farming, Mr. Bullard served the local funeral homes in Lee and Moore Counties as a grave digger. A loyal Duke Blue Devil fan, he was well-versed in Blue Devil basketball. Mr. Bullard also grew a large garden which he enjoyed sharing with neighbors and family.
Mr. Bullard is survived by his wife of 59 years, Norma Jean Cole Bullard; daughter, Amanda Bullard-Maxwell (Neil); daughter, Robin Bullard Mitchell (Chris); grandchildren, Hillary Dycus Rogers (Jordan), Aaron Paul Douglas, and Ana Belen Mitchell; siblings, William Alvis “Pat” Bullard (Violet), Rachel Bullard Kelly (Waylon), and Felicia Bullard Overton (Donald).
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 from 1:30 PM until 3:00 PM at Tramway Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM with Dr. John Allen and Travis Corley officiating. Burial will follow in Center United Methodist Church Cemetery.
