Virginia (Whittington) Wade

Virginia Whittington Wade, age 91, of Sanford, NC, died Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Sanford Health & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Greensboro, NC on September 14, 1926 to the late Worth Wallace Whittington and Viola Kivett Whittington.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter Mary Linda Wade Ballard and two brothers William “Bunk” Whittington and J.C. Whittington.  Mrs. Wade was a member of Moore Union Church and was a retired manager of the Western Union Company after 32 years of service.  She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion and Eastern Star.  She volunteered her time delivering food with Meals on Wheels and took patients to Chapel Hill for their chemo treatments.  She also worked at the Enrichment Center for 13 years.

She is survived by a son William Herbert “Herbie” Wade and wife Jane of Sanford; daughter Arlene Whittington Wade of Charlotte; sister Ann Whittington Rybicki of Florida; grandchildren Ginger Ballard, Amber Ballard, Jevon Wade, Joshua Wade and Andy Lent; great-grandchildren Jordan Wade, Adam Lent, Alyssa Lent, Aidan Wade, Jaxon Wade and Timothy Ballard.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Moore Union Church with Rev. David Yarborough officiating.
