Vera (Cole) Cothran

Vera Cole Boggs Cothran, age 83, of Sanford, NC, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at her home surrounded by family and friends.

She was born in Lee County, NC on April 23, 1936 to the late Melvin Cole and Flora Harrington.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. “Tom” Boggs; daughter, Carla Boggs Denson and husband, Mark; and two brothers, Charles “Buddy” Cole and Eugene “Gene” Cole.  Vera graduated from Greenwood High School. While attending high school, she was one of the first two ladies to drive a school bus in Lee County.  She worked for many years at A&P Grocery Store, Mann’s Hardware and McDonald Brothers Hardware.  She was an active member of Shepherd’s Flock Baptist Church.  She loved cooking for her family, crocheting, cross-stitching and painting. 

Vera is survived by a daughter, Phyllis Boggs of Sanford; a son, Thomas Michael Boggs and wife, Jackie of Sanford; sister, Doris Patterson of Sanford; step-daughter, Kathy Stack and husband, Robert of Sanford; step-son, Dale Cothran and wife, Barbara of Sanford; grandson, Tyler Norris of Sanford; three granddaughters, Amber Morrow of Fayetteville, Jamie Seawell of High Falls and April Boggs of Virginia; three step-grandsons, Jeremy, Jason and Ryan Stack all of Sanford; three great-grandchildren, Dalton Seawell, Noah Herring and Kendrick Wells; former husband, Roy Cothran, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

The funeral service will be Friday, June 21, 2019 at 11:00 am at Shepherd’s Flock Baptist Church with Dr. James Cochran and Dr. Larry Martin officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 am until 11:00 am.  Burial will follow in Center United Methodist Church Cemetery.
