Sarah (Sally) Perrin Thrower Hardison, 81, of Cheraw, South Carolina died Saturday, July 13, 2019 in Sanford, North Carolina in hospice care following a stroke. A graveside service will be held August 10, 2019 at 10:30 AM at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens in Cheraw. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. David’s Cemetery Association, PO Box 1196, Cheraw, SC 29520 or All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 635 Hamilton Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.
Born in Cheraw, Sally was the daughter of Sarah Perrin and William Hicks Thrower. She began her schooling at the Little Red Schoolhouse and grew up with these forever friends through Cheraw High School. She graduated from Winthrop College in the Class of 1960 and began a teaching career in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. There she met and married Jay Walter Hardison (d. 2009). They soon moved to Roanoke Rapids, NC to make their home. She taught high school business in the area and also worked at H&R Block.
She was an active member of All Saints’ and participated in the development of Independence Station, which was a consortium of crafters at Historic Halifax. She volunteered at the Roanoke Valley Veteran’s Museum. A true love of hers was her work with children in a reading program. She was a member of the Old Cheraws Chapter DAR.
Her sister Beck and husband Jim Hunter, her brother William Thrower and wife Emily, her nieces and nephews and a grand-nephew and a grand-niece survive Sally.
