Robert Melvin Phillips, 92, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 7, 2018. Melvin was a member of Shallow Well UCC where he served as a Deacon, a Trustee, and a member of various committees. Mr. Phillips was a Charter member of the Cape Fear Fire Department, member of NC Farm Bureau, and Cattlemen’s Association. He was a retired electrical contractor and served on the Lee County Planning Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie F. and Jessie J. Phillips; nine siblings, Ruby Phillips, Edith Frye, Howard Phillips, Harold Phillips, Bill Phillips, Roger Eugene Phillips, Norman Phillips, Weldon Phillips, Jimmy Phillips; and a grandson, Laurence Murphy.
Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Margaret Maddox Phillips; two daughters, Joy (Earl) Murphy and Judy (Rick) Billings of Sanford; two grandchildren, Joshua (Ann) Billings and Adam (Laurel) Billings. He is also survived by great-grandchildren Mattie White, Faith, Camden, and Finley Billings. He is also survived by a brother, Travis (Betty) Phillips of Sanford.
The family will receive friends Monday, April 9, 2018, from 6 to 8PM at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home. The funeral will be conducted at Shallow Well Church on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at 2PM. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
